Three feared dead in helicopter crash in Swiss Alps

Three people are feared to have died when a helicopter crashed in the Swiss Alps, police said after calling off the search as night fell Thursday.

Bern police were alerted at 5:45 pm (1545 GMT) Thursday after the helicopter disappeared near Reichenbach in central Switzerland, a police spokesman said.

"According to initial information, there were three people on board the helicopter, including the pilot," he said.

With the help of a reconnaissance helicopter, rescuers found a fire and some debris in an area very difficult to access.

The search and the police enquiry into the cause of the crash will resume on Friday.
