Esterline CMC Electronics Delivers 500th SureSight 2nd Generation EVS Sensor
Esterline CMC Electronics (CMC) has achieved a production milestone with the recent delivery of its 500th SureSight® second generation Enhanced Vision System (EVS) sensor, the CMA-2600. The EVS unit was delivered to Rockwell Collins Head-up Guidance Systems for installation on the Dassault Falcon 7X aircraft.
Since its entry into service in 2005, the CMA-2600 has been selected and installed on more aircraft types than any other EVS sensor; the sensor is used to expand an aircraft’s operational capabilities. The sensor’s widespread acceptance is a result of its compact, single Line Replaceable Unit (LRU) design and superior maintainability.

CMC’s SureSight® family of EVS sensors comprise of the second generation CMA-2600 and the third generation CMA-2700. These systems are designed to meet the ever increasing demand for higher video performance, reliability and quality standards. They offer enhanced situational awareness in adverse visual conditions and enable operators to take advantage of regulations from authorities, including the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and Transport Canada (TCCA), that further expand the operational capabilities of aircraft equipped with an EVS.
Under these regulations, when the runway environment cannot be visually acquired at the decision altitude, or the minimum decision altitude, using natural vision, the pilot of an aircraft equipped with a head-up display presenting the EVS imagery can continue the descent down to 100 feet above the touch down zone elevation, provided that the requirements for a visual approach are met using the EVS. From that point onwards in the descent, these visual references must be visible to the pilot without the use of the EVS system in order for the aircraft to proceed to a landing.
