Astrium receives secure airborne satcom contract from Yahsat

  • Contract covers modems, baseband equipment, cryptos, network management and ground segment

Astrium, Europe’s leading space company, has been awarded a contract to provide airborne satcom systems from Star Satellite Communications Company, a subsidiary of Al Yah Satellite Communications Company (Yahsat).

Initially Astrium Services will supply Yahsat with airborne systems comprising modems, baseband equipment, cryptos, network management and ground segment. The system will help overcome the increasing requirement and demand for secure, high speed transmission of data in the area.

“Partnering with Astrium Services allows Yahsat to benefit from the assurance and expertise of an industry leader; with a proven track record in satellite communications applications and technologies”, Rashed Al Ghafri, General Manager of YahService, said.

“This agreement will enable us to provide the most advanced technologies in satellite communications to support the UAE’s airborne assets”, he added.

Aidan Joy, Executive Director of Astrium Services’ Satcom Systems and Solutions said: “We are delighted to partner with Yahsat to offer airborne satcom systems based on our state-of-the-art technology and systems capability”.

And added: “We are confident that Yahsat’s aeronautical customers will appreciate the performance, value and operational benefits of the airborne systems”.
