Sentient announces Kestrel Land MTI 3.0
Sentient today announced the release of Kestrel Land MTI 3.0, a major software upgrade to Sentient’s automated target detection solution, deployed in theatre by a number of militaries. Kestrel Land MTI is a software solution that automatically detects and tracks small moving objects in electro-optical (EO) and infrared (IR) full motion video from manned and unmanned aircraft.
Enhancing airborne intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) missions, Kestrel Land MTI 3.0 immediately detects and cues operators to potential threats on the ground. The new capabilities assist them to investigate the situation in more detail and instantly feed the information back to the operation centre and/or forces on the ground, providing fast, actionable intelligence. “Working extensively with customers who have Kestrel Land MTI deployed in support of their ISR operations, we significantly extended the performance of the software,” said Simon Olsen, Sales Manager, Sentient Vision Systems. “This major upgrade is the direct result of feedback of payload operators and image analysts in theatre.”
A key capability added in Kestrel Land MTI 3.0 enables the software to keep persistent track of targets detected. Operators have the ability to track all visible targets or an individual target of interest. At any moment in time, they are able to gain a visible history of targets’ movements for any period the targets are within the sensors’ field of view. Kestrel is able to keep persistent Detection IDs.
“This new functionality increases operators’ general situational awareness”, explained Simon Olsen. “Often operators have little awareness of ground activities outside of their focus area. Kestrel, by visually detecting and tracking the movement, expands the operators’ understanding and awareness of the overall mission.”
Kestrel Land MTI 3.0 also allows operators to digitally zoom in on any target or location in the image area. Without re-tasking the sensors they are able to investigate unusual activities on the ground in more detail. By capturing, saving and transmitting the video frame in the form of a jpg or bmp image, this information can be easily shared. Kestrel Land MTI can disseminate geo-location data to downstream users in real-time, providing actionable intelligence to support operations on the ground.
