US military jet crashes in S. Korea, pilot safe

A US military jet crashed in southern South Korea on Wednesday but its pilot ejected to safety, a fire station officer said.

The single-seat A-10 tank buster crashed into a rice paddy in Hwayang village, Seocheon county around noon (0300 GMT), the officer at the Seocheon fire station told AFP.

"The lone pilot ejected to safety but he was injured. He is now being treated in an ambulance," he said.

The crash came as South Korean and US troops stage an annual joint military drill.

A US military spokesman said he was checking the report.
