Spain-bound plane triggers alert at Dutch airport
A Spain-bound passenger plane landed safely back at Amsterdam's Schiphol airport, Europe's fifth largest, after its pilot triggered an alert, an airport spokeswoman said Thursday.
"The plane turned back and landed safely at Schiphol after its pilot asked for assistance," Karin Heldeweg told AFP. "The plane was en route from Schiphol to Bilbao in Spain when the incident happened," she added, saying rescue services at the airport had been scrambled.

Heldeweg could not provide the type of plane or the number of passengers, who were unharmed. The reason for the turn-back was unknown, she added.
The plane belonged to low-cost Spanish carrier Vueling, Heldeweg said. The airline's representatives in the Netherlands declined to comment.
"The plane is being inspected by a technical team to see if it can continue on its journey later this afternoon," Heldeweg said.
Between 120,000 and 140,000 passengers pass through Schiphol daily.
