Aero Surveys Limited operating under the commercial name 'Starbow', based in Accra capital of Ghana, commenced on September 26th 2011 its domestic operations with two BAe 146-300 regional jetliners.
The two BAe 146-300 are equipped to high standards and configured with 8 Business class seats and 86 Economy class seats. Both aircraft have already been ferried to Kotoka International Airport in Ghana.
Aero Surveys Limited, holder of an Air Operating Certificate (AOC) and a Commercial Air Carrier licences granted by the Ghanaian Civil Aviation Authority leased both aircraft from the owner, Riva Investments Limited, who recently purchased them from Falko (who have purchased BAE Systems' commercial aircraft portfolio in May 2011).
Domestic services envisaged for 'Starbow' include routes centred on Accra and the important regional city of Kumasi and linking them to other destinations such as Tamale and Takoradi.
The Company believes in the considerable potential for airline business in West Africa and will do its best to compete effectively within the Region. "Airline Business" magazine, recently reported that 74% of Intra-African routes have no more than one daily flight and that some 50% of African city pairs are believed to be under served. Aero Surveys Limited plans to position its brand 'Starbow' in the West Africa region and will operate regional international flights with durations of up to two-three hours.
Internationally, the airline plans to offer direct air services to the capital cities of neighbouring countries such as Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso; Abidjan, Ivory Coast; Monrovia, Liberia; Bamako, Mali; Niamey, Niger; Lagos, Nigeria and Freetown, Sierra Leone.
The BAe146 was designed and is very well suited for the regional routes planned by 'Starbow'. This is mainly due to the vast majority of routes being quite short and to limited airfield access; the aircraft's high wing and four engine configuration is complemented by tail mounted air brakes and optional steep approach modifications, to extend the aircraft's potential into airfields formerly accessible to turboprop aircraft alone. The company contracted Inflite UK to provide line and base maintenance
