Smiths Detection's Firstview-LINX Enhances Air Cargo Security and Data

Software Platform Combines X-ray and Explosives Detection Screening for Most Efficient Analysis and Audit of Air Cargo Screening

Morristown, N.J., 27 April 2011 - Smiths Detection today unveils FirstView-LINX, a unique security software platform for air cargo screening that offers X-ray and explosives trace detection results in a single view.

The software upgrade, easily installed in Smiths Detection's existing HI-SCAN X-ray systems and IONSCAN 500DT explosive trace detectors, also provides the operations center with advanced data collection through automatic bar code identification of the screened item.

Using two of the most effective and widely deployed screening solutions world-wide, FirstView-LINX is designed to help shippers and freight forwarders expedite and consolidate screening results and automate the reporting requirements for air cargo screening.

Jim Viscardi, Vice President, Sales, Smiths Detection said: "Our new FirstView-LINX software offers the most advanced integrated solution for cargo screening. In addition, if our customers or the authorities need an urgent, comprehensive audit on any item the system can provide it in seconds."

With 16 different X-ray machines and other technologies on the TSA's approved technology list, Smiths Detection already offers the widest range of detection systems for air cargo. Since August 2010 all air cargo on passenger aircraft in the US must be screened for explosives
