FMV Sweden Signs Strategic Partnering Agreement With QinetiQ

QinetiQ has signed a strategic agreement with Forsvarets materielverk (FMV) the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration, to operate and maintain the world class national Flight Physiological Centre.

Under the ten year agreement, QinetiQ will use its test and evaluation expertise to manage the facilities and ensure that they are available to the Swedish Armed Forces as required. The agreement also seeks to secure the long term future of the facilities by actively encouraging QinetiQ to market them to other third party customers, providing greater productive use of the centre.

The Flight Physiological Centre is part of the aviation training, testing and research establishment located at Malmen, southern Sweden. The self contained centre comprises a Dynamic Flight Simulator (DFS), a combined human centrifuge and flight simulator which creates the g-force effect imposed by high performance aircraft; a hypobaric decompression chamber and a hyperbaric high pressure "diving" chamber; and a purpose build test and survival pool which can recreate adverse weather conditions.

"FMV's ability to support world-class aviation medicine training, research and test & evaluation will be assured for the long-term by the cost savings and facility management skills delivered by QinetiQ, a proven provider of high-integrity technology-based defence managed services," stated Brigadier General Ossi Koukkula, FMV's director of test and evaluation.

Mike Howarth, MD of QinetiQ's managed services business added: "This solution makes commercial sense for both parties. QinetiQ will continue to deliver its expertise in technical managed services to a new customer, while FMV retains access to world class capabilities and enjoys cost saving benefits.

QinetiQ already has a well established relationship with FMV having successfully provided independent expertise to a number of research support and enabling projects. The two organisations have also worked together to support the provision of Gripen aircraft for training programmes delivered via the Empire Test Pilots' School at MOD Boscombe Down, in the UK.
