Leaders in simulation solutions join forces bringing best-in-class training solutions to maintenance technicians
Vancouver, Canada & Munich, Germany - NGRAIN, a leading provider of interactive 3D equipment simulation solutions that maximize the effectiveness of training programs and maintenance support systems, and CASSIDIAN (formerly EADS Defence & Security), a global leader in aerospace, defence and related services, today announced that the companies have signed a teaming agreement to provide integrated solutions for virtual aircraft maintenance training. Under the agreement, NGRAIN(r) and CASSIDIAN will develop interactive virtual training platforms to provide aircraft maintenance technicians with the ability to practice and review critical maintenance procedures within a complete simulation of aircraft functionality, including fully realistic operational scenarios.
"EADS Canada is particularly pleased that CASSIDIAN signed this agreement with NGRAIN to improve the efficiency of its maintenance and training solutions," said Pierre Delestrade, President and CEO of EADS Canada. "Complementing the investment EADS has made so far in Canada, this agreement with NGRAIN is a testimony of the confidence EADS has in Canadian cutting edge companies such as NGRAIN to improve its products and services."
Delivering a combined solution based on commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) software and hardware, NGRAIN and CASSIDIAN will integrate their award-winning solutions to provide an end-to-end training experience for aircraft maintenance technicians. With its unparalleled real-time interactivity, NGRAIN Virtual Task Trainer(tm) (VTT(tm)) solutions allow technicians to review and practice maintenance and repair procedures on a 3D simulation of equipment systems and subsystems. The NGRAIN VTT will be integrated with the innovative CASSIDIAN Virtual Maintenance Trainer (VMT), a simulator that combines computer-based training with a high-end aircraft maintenance simulator. The result is a responsive, real-time training platform for maintenance professionals to practice critical procedures and troubleshooting or fault-finding exercises.
The VTT is based on NGRAIN's unique 3KO(r) (3D Knowledge Object(tm)) format, which combines highly detailed 3D models of a specific system with embedded tasks, procedures, animations and training overviews. NGRAIN 3KOs are easily created, updated and integrated into common computing platforms and can be tied into Learning Management Systems (LMS) to track overall learning objectives and performance. CASSIDIAN offers highly flexible and modular Training Bricks based on aircraft subsystems which can be added and enhanced as training requirements change. The Training Bricks include any number of static or dynamic faults and procedures to ensure trainees learn about safety critical actions and necessary real-life maintenance. The combination of these solutions gives customers a modular and reusable solution which protects the long-term investment of its customers.
"This partnership is one of the first to address maintenance training in a holistic manner," said Paul Lindahl, CEO, NGRAIN. "Never before have maintenance technicians had access to a training capability that provides the ability to review and practice procedures in a highly responsive virtual environment. If a technician removes the fuel line on the NGRAIN VTT, the CASSIDIAN simulator will respond in real time, delivering a new level of realism in maintenance training. We are looking forward to co-developing innovative solutions for global defense organizations moving forward."
