Harris Awarded $97 M Weather and Radar Processor Support Contract
- Selection Continues Company's Legacy as FAA's Provider of Trusted Weather Products
WARP is an interactive, meteorological data processing system that simultaneously and continuously receives, processes, stores, distributes and displays aviation-related weather information and radar products. The system generates radar mosaic data for air traffic controller displays and delivers weather data to critical subsystems within the National Airspace System (NAS). It is deployed at 21 Air Route Traffic Control Centers (ARTCCs) across the U.S. and at the Air Traffic Control System Command Center (ATCSCC) in Virginia.
Under the WARP Maintenance and Sustainment Services (WMSS) II contract, Harris will provide hardware and software maintenance, a 24x7 user help desk, engineering services and continued sustainment to align the system with future FAA weather initiatives.
"Harris has been the prime contractor for WARP services to the FAA since 1996 and a trusted provider of weather information systems for more than 20 years," said John O'Sullivan, vice president, Harris Mission Critical Networks. "We will continue to provide advanced technology and services that meet the highest stringent safety and reliability requirements of the FAA."
Harris has a long history of providing systems integration and services solutions for the FAA and the global air traffic control network. In addition to its work as prime contractor and system architect for the FAA Telecommunications Infrastructure (FTI) network, Harris has developed other FAA programs, including:
-- OASIS, which provides integrated weather briefing and flight planning capabilities for preflight weather briefings and in-flight updates;
-- The Voice Switching and Control System (VSCS), which provides the critical air-to-ground communication links between en-route aircraft and air traffic controllers throughout the continental United States; and
-- The satellite-based Alaskan National Airspace System (NAS) Interfacility Communications System.
In addition, Harris was selected last month to provide the FAA with mission analysis and systems engineering services under the Systems Engineering 2020 (SE-2020) contract as part of The Boeing Company team.
