BAE To Provide Mobile Military Communications Systems To Slovak MoD

• The MOKYS system supports secure transfer of information in the form of voice, data and images

(Farnborough, UK, July 19, 2010) -- BAE Systems has secured a production contract with the Slovak Ministry of Defence for a newly designed mobile military communications system (known as MOKYS).

Under the EUR57M contract, the company will also upgrade prototypes it first supplied in 2007 to be interoperable with the new equipment.

Slovak companies including Corinex Group, a.s., and Vyvoj Martin, a.s., have been chosen as major subcontractors to deliver high value systems and products. BAE Systems has also signed an agreement with the Slovak Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Economy to provide an industrial offset package in Slovakia equal to 100% of the MOKYS program value.

"This communications technology means the Slovak Armed Forces can continue to operate their NATO missions. It also delivers significant benefit to the Slovak economy via a progressive offset programme, which has already delivered more than EUR80M worth of value to Slovak industry," said Dean McCumiskey, BAE Systems' managing director - west.

The MOKYS system supports secure transfer of information in the form of voice, data and images at both the operational and tactical levels of command. MOKYS is designed to be modular, highly mobile, and independent of changes in configuration of forces and has been successfully deployed by the Slovakian military on the NATO Communications Interoperability Exercise 'Combined Endeavour' during 2008 and 2009.

The new MOKYS configuration features: a new container design with a remodelled interior providing improved ergonomics; use of lighter-weight materials to reduce payload; a new power design for sharing of generators between units; and improved armour protection.
