Thales's New Simulator 'Ready for Training' With Launch Customer

(April 26, 2010) -- The first Thales RealitySeven A320 simulator has been certified 'Ready for Training' (RFT) with launch customer Airbus in its training centre at Toulouse.

Launched last year Thales UK's new RealitySeven full-flight simulator is based on a modular design, with a common core element (a docking station that incorporates a proven electric motion system) independent of the aircraft type. Different aircraft modules can effectively be 'swapped' out, as a customer's fleet or training business needs change, without the entire simulator needing to be replaced and without the need for further investment.

RealitySeven uses key technologies including digital electrical control loading and electric motion systems to drive down operational costs through greatly reduced power consumption while continuing to deliver increased reliability and availability above 99%. The design also encompasses the latest environmental directives and manufacturing processes to reduce carbon footprint.

Marion Broughton, VP of the Thales UK's avionics, training & simulation business, says: "This is an incredibly proud moment for the Thales UK workforce as this is the first simulator built at our new Crawley facility, and the first RealitySeven to reach RFT. "The French Aviation Authorities were decidedly impressed with the quality of the device during the intensive evaluation performed. The team at Airbus have been very supportive and we look forward to continuing to build on the synergies established in this programme."

Thales UK has invested in new GBP100m, 18-acre flagship site in Crawley (UK), which includes 16 simulation bays, comprising 12 full-flight simulator and four fixed-base simulator bays designed to increase productivity and support reducing lead times.
