Selex SI: Civil Air Traffic Control Systems Sold in China

(March 19, 2010) -- SELEX Sistemi Integrati, a Finmeccanica company, was awarded a contract for a total value of 19 million dollars by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) to provide eight air traffic control radar systems.

The company will supply four primary radars, one of which in L band and three in S band, all equipped with solid state technology, and four S mode secondary radars. The sensors will be located in four different sites, belonging to three, out of the seven, flight information regions (FIR) in which China is divided.

In particular, the systems will be installed in Wuzhong, in the North-West flight information region, in Chongquing, in the central South region, in Guangzhou and Sanya, in the South Eastern region. The Sanya equipments, on Hainan island, will be placed near the already operational SELEX Sistemi Integrati's systems, put in place in the early nineties. They will be part of the radar network in charge of the air traffic control over the crowed South Pacific air routes.

The solid state technology primary radars to be delivered to China, represent an important reaffirmation also from a technological point of view for SELEX Sistemi Integrati, which keeps on designing, producing and selling vanguard systems.
