Thales to Supply IP-Based Tactical Communication Infrastructure to SwAF

(February 17, 2010) -- Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) has awarded Thales a contract to equip the Swedish Armed Forces with a next generation IP-based tactical communication infrastructure under the KomNod Programme.

The Swedish Armed Forces (SwAF) is on its way to implement an IP-based communication infrastructure. One critical component in the overall infrastructure will be integrated voice and IP services in vehicle platforms.


Thales's comprehensive solution offers a large number of communication services, such as radio gateway, telephony, alarms, routing, ETHERNET, intercom and management services. These services are based upon the next generation of the well-known, field proven SOTASIP system, a fully IP-based ruggedised multi-service vehicular platform with a small physical footprint.

While SOTASIP is developed and produced by Thales in the Netherlands, most of the software development dedicated to the Swedish solution will be done in Norway, further extending Thales's already long-standing experience of the needs of the Swedish Armed Forces. Thales's solution is a further development of the SOTAS system already in use by the Norwegian Army, and will support further Nordic standardisation in this area.
