Obama, Medvedev nuclear talks in Copenhagen: US official
WASHINGTON, Dec 17, 2009 (AFP) - US President Barack Obama and his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev will hold talks in Copenhagen on a new deal cutting their nuclear arsenals, a senior US official said Thursday. The leaders, who will join the climate summit's final day Friday in the Danish capital, will meet on the sidelines of the gathering to "discuss ongoing post-START agreement negotiations," the official told AFP on condition of anonymity.
US and Russian officials have been holding intense talks in Geneva on replacing the 1991 Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, which led to deep cuts in their nuclear arsenals but expired on December 5 without a replacement.
