GD UK and MOD team commended for unique achievement in Armoured Fighting Vehicle integration

(London, UK, December 9, 2009) -- The UK's Ministry of Defence has awarded a prestigious commendation to a joint team of General Dynamics UK and MOD personnel for their achievement in the successful integration of 13,000 British Army vehicles. The commendation was presented by Air Vice-Marshal Bob Allan OBE, the Director of Information Systems and Services, in recognition of the successful effort to deliver modern tactical communications and data capability across the UK's Armed Forces.

Air Vice-Marshal Allan's commendation said: "This award recognises the team's role in the successful completion of the installation design, certification and delivery, worldwide, of the Bowman Communications System to over 13,000 tri-service platforms (1200 design variations in 54 vehicle types), 34 static communications sites and training to over 75,000 personnel within agreed performance, time and cost constraints. This achievement has laid the foundations for tactical battle-space digitisation by providing a pan MOD secure voice combat net radio system and a versatile command information system."

Commodore Jay Hart, Head of BATCIS Delivery Team, said: "Bowman is providing real benefits. This is a real boost for the team, recognising their exceptional achievement and the excellent working relationship between the BATCIS DT and General Dynamics UK in our joint effort to deliver these vital capabilities for the UK's Armed Forces."

Dr Sandy Wilson, President and Managing Director of General Dynamics UK, said: "The integration of the British Army's vehicle fleet, together with headquarters, ships and aircraft, is an unprecedented success story. As well as generating a unique pool of skills and capability in General Dynamics UK's AFV integration team, it has showed what can be delivered by partnership between the defence industry and the MOD."
