ITT Imaging System Delivers First Pictures from WorldView-2
- Stunning Initial Pictures Demonstrate Capabilities of World's Most-Advanced Commercial Space Imaging System
"ITT is proud to have designed and built the high-resolution imaging system that is the heart and soul of WorldView-2," said Chris Young, president of ITT Space Systems. "These first images are spectacular, and they are only going to get better. This is a great testimony to the quality of ITT's imaging systems. WorldView-2 is flying the world's most advanced commercial remote-sensing system, and these first photos provide some early proof of its remarkable capabilities."
ITT has played a significant role in building each of Digital Globe's current three-satellite constellation, including WorldView-1, launched in 2007, and QuickBird, which has surpassed its expected lifetime and still is delivering superior imagery after more than eight years on orbit.
ITT helped create the commercial remote-sensing market by designing and building the imaging system for IKONOS, the world's first commercial high-resolution satellite, which was launched in 1999 and is still operating today. ITT has helped build the majority of the commercial remote-sensing satellites launched since then.
WorldView-2 was launched from Vandenberg AFB on October 8, 2009, and is still undergoing routine calibration and checkout.
