"We are proud to be selected to support the U.S. Air Force. Together with our partners we look forward to ensure that the KC-10 program continues to meet its mission and operating targets", said Dr. Stefan Weingartner, President and CEO of MTU Maintenance. The tanker and cargo aircraft is part of the Air Force's Air Mobility Command arsenal and is supporting anti-terrorist and humanitarian operations around the globe. As a part of the engine maintenance team with its partner Chromalloy, MTU Maintenance will act as the engine depot maintenance provider as well as provide the technical program management for engine maintenance. The team is led by Northrop Grumman Corporation; another partner is AAR Corporation, Wood Dale, Ill.. The total indefinite delivery and indefinite quantity contract has a total ceiling value of 2.5 billion euros ($3.8 billion).
MTU will primarily perform the work in support of prime contractor Northrop Grumman at its Canadian facility in Richmond, BC. Weingartner: "This contract is a strong message of support for the expertise and quality of work of MTU Maintenance Canada. It represents an excellent opportunity to illustrate to the USAF that MTU Maintenance is an industry leader in supporting airlines, military and governmental operations".
