Selex SI Signs Contract With Malaysia's Civil Aviation Authority
(Rome, September 28, 2009) -- SELEX Sistemi Integrati, a Finmeccanica company, has signed a contract worth more than EUR 26 million with the General Directorate of Malaysia's Civil Aviation Authority, to supply civilian air traffic control systems for eight of the Country's airports. The agreement covers a primary radar, systems for air traffic control centres and control towers and simulation and training centres, for a total of 66operational stations.

Specifically, the contract covers the updating of the national air traffic control centre in Kuala Lumpur, of the regional control centres at the airports of Kuching and Kota Kinabalu and the modernisation of terminal area control centres and control towers at the airports of Sibu, Langkawi, Penang, Miri, and Tawau. Finally, it is foreseen the modernisation of the simulation and training centres in Kuala Lumpur, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu, the aim being to bring airport facilities into line with the new functions of operational centres.
The control centre and control tower systems will be interconnected, thus bringing into being an integrated national air traffic control system, which will allow Malaysia to attain 90% radar coverage - all with systems supplied over the years by SELEX Sistemi Integrati - and to achieve the same operational standard as the world's most advanced systems.
