ZBVs and ZBV Mil Trailers Deployed for Counterterrorism Missions

(Billerica, Mass., August 20, 2009) -- American Science and Engineering, Inc. (AS&E(r)) (NASDAQ: ASEI), a leading worldwide supplier of innovative X-ray detection solutions, announced today the receipt of a $11.5 million service and maintenance renewal order from the U.S. government for Z Backscatter Vans(tm) (ZBV) and the ZBV Military Trailers(tm) (ZBV Mil Trailer) - a rugged version of the Company's patented ZBV cargo and vehicle screening system. The ZBVs and ZBV Mil Trailers are deployed to support counterterrorist missions.
