New step for PILARw Gunshot Detection Systems (GDS)

Lyon, France - Jul 23, 2009 - PILARw Vehicle Configuration is a real-time situation awareness system providing the vehicle crew with a Gunshot alert in an instant, as well as with the shooter location information.

When installed on Armoured Fighting Vehicles (AFV), PILARw can be efficiently linked with RWS, directly or indirectly via a Battlefield Management System (BMS) like it has been achieved on Belgium AIV or Afghan Rosomak version in Poland for example.

After preliminary integration study made upon the request of the US SOCOM, a new step has been achieved by the development of Kongsberg data protocol into PILARw. Hence, a simple Ethernet cable connection allows the communication between both systems and the display of shot alerts directly in the Protector, as well as the automatic slew to cue function. Using shooter location information computed by PILARw, it is possible to orient the RWS in a second to provide deterrent effect and to allow enemy identification.

PILARw provides additional contribution to crew protection and strong operational advantage in asymmetric type of conflict.

With providing easy solution for coupling with most popular RWS in service, 01dB-Metravib foresees a potential market expansion for new or upgrade programs for AFVs, taking advantage of new features recently implemented in PILARw such as automatic return shots filtering and calibre identification.

Equipping many 4x4 and 8x8 vehicles programmes, PILARw has also been tested on tracked vehicles, demonstrating its versatility and capabilities on all platforms (it has also been also proven on Fast Patrol Boats and Helicopters).
