Alloy Surfaces Awarded $82.8 M Special Material Decoy Orders
(June 19, 2009) -- Chemring Group PLC ("Chemring") is pleased to announce that its US subsidiary, Alloy Surfaces Company, Inc. ("Alloy Surfaces"), based in Philadelphia, has been awarded a $74.2 million contract from the United States Air Force for MJU-50/B special material decoys ("SMDs"), and an $8.6 million contract from the United States Navy for MJU-49/B SMDs. Deliveries under the two contracts will commence in the third quarter of 2009.The United States Air Force uses the MJU-50/B decoys to protect various types of transport and fighter aircraft against infrared missiles. The US Navy will use the MJU-49/B decoys to protect all types of fighter, transport, patrol, and helicopter aircraft. Alloy Surfaces' proprietary range of SMDs provides dramatically increased protection levels against current and the latest generation of infrared missiles, commonly known as "MANPADS".
Dr David Price, Chief Executive of Chemring, commented: "We are delighted to have received these two contracts for our advanced pyrophoric decoys. Alloy Surfaces now has a very strong order book, some 45% higher than a year ago. This underpins its revenue for the next few years."
