DRS Receives A $32 M To Provide Its JSTDS-SS

(Parsippany, N.J., April 21, 2009) -- DRS Technologies, Inc. announced today that it received a $32 million order from Natick Contracting Division, Natick, MA to provide Joint Service Transportable Decontamination Systems, Small Scale (JSTDS-SS). The order is part of a current five-year $84 million contract with the Chemical & Biological Defense Joint Program Executive Office in Falls Church, VA.

This is the 16th order DRS has received as part of the five year contract. The work will be executed by the company's DRS Environmental Systems business unit in Florence, Kentucky with completion expected in March 2011.

The JSTDS-SS is a replacement for the M17 Lightweight Decontamination System and is transportable by platforms capable of operating in close proximity to combat operations off-road, virtually over any terrain. The JSTDS-SS consists of an applicator and accessories that will be used to support operational and thorough decontamination of non-sensitive military material, limited facility decontamination at logistics bases, airfields, naval ships, ports, key command and control centers, and other fixed facilities that have been exposed to chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) warfare agents/contamination and toxic industrial materials. As part of the order and overall contract, DRS will also provide logistics support that includes training services for key personnel as well as maintenance and equipment and training.

"The JSTDS-SS provides a critical capability within America's overall framework for responding to CBRN threats," said Roger Sexauer, president of DRS Power and Environmental Systems business group. "In light of this, it is no surprise that DRS - as a preeminent supplier of CBRN decontaminations systems - was chosen to assist in this endeavor to ensure safety and security on a national and international scale".

The JSTDS-SS is more robust, easier to use, and more reliable than the M17. The system can use water from any source and is transportable for rapid setup and start of decontamination operations. The JSTDS-SS is easily operated by one person.
