Cubic to Introduce Anti-IED Training Capability

(San Diego, CA., October 26, 2008) -- Cubic Corporation (NYSE: CUB) is integrating improvised explosive device (IED) simulators into Combat Training Center instrumentation systems around the world to take IED training to the next level of realism. Cubic's Australian subsidiary, Cubic Defence Australia Pty. Ltd., will showcase this capability for the first time during the Land Warfare Conference to be held 27-31 October in Brisbane.

During the conference, Cubic will also demonstrate its new laser-based combat training system featuring wireless technology. The Individual Weapon System with Personal Area Network (PAN) is a lightweight, wireless progression of the equipment Cubic delivered under Australia's Land 134 Combat Training Centre - Live Instrumentation System. PAN consists of a laser transmitter mounted to the soldier's weapon as well as small, lightweight detector modules that can be affixed to vests, body armour or backpacks. The independent modules provide the capability to associate soldiers and vehicles and to receive threats from simulated mines, grenades and IEDs.

The PAN system is interoperable with both fixed and mobile Combat Training Instrumentation Systems, and is ideal for use during Urban Operations Training. Additional modules can be added to the soldier's ensemble to enhance the system's fidelity if desired.

Anti-IED Products and Systems Integration

"Cubic's solution for IED training builds on the strengths of Combat Training Solutions' non-pyrotechnic experience and Cubic's range instrumentation systems to deliver a remotely operated IED simulation training system (IED-SIM)," said Mark Horn, general manager of Cubic Defence Australia Pty. Ltd. "IED-SIM is a suite of IED control and replication devices that enable pyro or non-pyro IED simulators to be interoperable with MILES laser and Land 134 harness radios. The products have the capacity to be integrated fully with the existing EXCON, Cubic's Personal Computer Range Instrumentation Systems (PC-RIS)."

Cubic Defense Applications, located in San Diego, California, has worked on two projects involving simulated IEDs:

-- Canada: Cubic received a contract from the Canadian Department of National Defence (CDND) to integrate simulated IEDs, suicide bombs and IED countermeasures into the Canada Weapon Effects Simulation (WES) in Wainwright, Alberta, Canada. The simulated IEDs will generate the flash, bang and smoke of real devices using safe, environmentally friendly non-pyrotechnic methods. Audio messages and visual displays will alert soldiers participating in training exercises of their casualty status. Combat Training Solutions, Inc., of Colorado Springs, is Cubic's subcontractor for the Canadian integration project.
-- United Kingdom: Last year, Cubic and subcontractor Combat Training Solutions integrated roadside bomb and suicide vest simulators into the British Army's Area Weapons Effect Simulator (AWES) in the Salisbury Plain Training Area (SPTA) and the British Army Training Unit Suffield (BATUS) in Alberta, Canada. Since then, hundreds of soldiers have experienced this capability as part of AWES instrumented training.

"The system allows soldiers playing the opposing force the capability to adapt and improvise, so soldiers can learn to react to all of the types of mechanisms that they would find in the field," said Doug Grunewald, senior program manager for Development and Integration for Cubic Defense Applications.
