L-3 Awarded United Kingdom C-130 Contract
(New York, August 19, 2008) -- L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL) announced today that its SPAR subsidiary has been awarded an $18 million contract by the U.K. Ministry of Defence, Royal Air Force to perform outer wing replacements on three C-130K aircraft. This win reflects L-3's commitment and increasing presence in the U.K. as a major supplier to the MoD."We are pleased that the MoD and Royal Air Force have entrusted us with this C-130 outer wing program," said Sylvain Bedard, president of L-3 SPAR. "We have developed innovative and unique wing improvement programs for the Canadian C-130 fleet for over 40 years, and this award is a reflection of our market leadership in C-130 life extension programs."
The outer wing refurbishment contract commenced this month at L-3 SPAR's Edmonton, Alberta, Canada facility. The wings are being reconditioned to meet the Royal Air Force's Hercules Outer Wing Replacement Plan.
"The provision of outer wings will extend the life of a number of essential operational aircraft to meet their planned out-of-service date," said Group Captain Mark Hobbs, Hercules Integrated Project team leader. "L-3 SPAR offered us the opportunity to provide this war-winning capability in a cost-effective manner. I am pleased that L-3 SPAR has demonstrated their undoubted ability to perform this essential task for the MoD."
