DRS Receives a $26 M R&D Contract from the USN to Work on their Low-Cost CBAAR Technology Program

(Parsippany, N.J., January 14, 2008) -- DRS Technologies, Inc., (NYSE: DRS) announced today that it received a $26 million contract, including options, from the U.S. Navy's Office of Naval Research (ONR) in Arlington, Virginia, to design, develop and build a solid state, active element, phased array antenna subsystem for their Low-Cost C-Band Active Array Radar (CBAAR) program.

The work for this contract has begun and is being accomplished by the company's DRS C3 Systems business unit in Gaithersburg, Maryland and Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania. The completion of the contract and final delivery of the antenna subsystem hardware is expected by October 2009.

"This contract allows DRS to demonstrate a new and versatile radar technology to the U.S. Navy," said Richard S. Danforth, president of DRS' Command, Control and Communications strategic business unit. "CBAAR will allow Navy vessels to detect and track friendly objects as well as potential threats, and present the data for evaluation and appropriate action. The technology can provide tactical advantages for both current naval vessels and ships in development."
