"Rockwell is our No. 1 power amplifier customer. We are an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) supplier to them, and appreciate their continued confidence in our products," said Dan McCormick, senior director of signal intelligence, electronic warfare and avionics communications products for Cubic Defense Applications.
The new systems update the current aging HF networks used as a backup in case traditional communications are disrupted, and include HF linking and HF e-mail. They are designed for over-the-horizon, beyond line-of-sight long-range communications, making them ideally suited for the commercial airline industry as well as military and civil maritime communications.
The new orders are a follow-on to a $7.5 million contract received from Rockwell two years ago for 1 Kw and 4 Kw power amplifiers, which are used to extend long-range, High Frequency (HF) communications.
Cubic received an additional $2.2 million follow-on order from Rockwell's Performance and Architectural Collaboration Environment (PACE) Laboratory in Richardson, Texas, to supply 24 four-kilowatt power amplifiers for Scope Command, a U.S. Air Force initiative to transform its existing high-power HF stations into a network-centric system linking command and control functions with strategic and tactical airborne platforms around the world.
Cubic also reported follow-on sales of DF equipment and antennas as well as communications receivers from current U.S. and Canadian customers.
The Canadian Department of National Defence has ordered $1.2 million worth of Cubic's direction-finding (DF) systems. Cubic has now sold close to $3 million of these systems to Canada in the past two years for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) needs, with additional orders expected in 2007.
Cubic also received a $1.2 million order for multiple sets of its CDA 3280 and CDR 3580 VHF/UHF receivers from Argon ST of Fairfax, Virginia. The VHF/UHF receivers are part of Increment E of the U.S. Navy's Ship's Signal Exploitation Equipment (SSEE) communications program.
