Industry Responds to Airbus Restructuring

(February 28, 2007) -- Following today's announcement from Airbus, detailing its Power8 restructuring plan, Sally Howes, Director General of SBAC, commented:

"The UK has emerged fairly well from this major restructuring of Airbus. This reflects the efforts that have been made by industry and Government in recent years to improve supply chain productivity, up-skill the workforce and increase investment in new technology. SBAC is convinced a leaner and more competitive Airbus is essential for the global aviation sector, including defence customers, and good for the UK aerospace industry.


"The confirmation that the UK will continue as the global centre of excellence for wing design and assembly is a great endorsement of our capability and workforce. UK industry and Government cannot afford be to be complacent. We must increase the level of private and public investment in the new technologies, materials and processes required for the aircraft of the future."
