(WALLINGFORD, Conn.) -- After successful competition, Measurement Systems Inc (Ultra MSI), a division of Ultra Electronics, has been awarded a $2.83 million contract by the NATO Maintenance and Supply Agency (NAMSA) to provide customized hand controls for Raytheon's Improved Target Acquisition System (ITAS). ITAS is the advanced Electro-Optic Target Acquisition Fire Control System that guides the TOW (Tube-Launched, Optically Tracked, Wire-Guided) weapon systems to their targets with surgical precision.

Ultra MSI developed a superior hand control design that helps improve system reliability and provides quick access for fast and easy maintenance. The new customized controls - with separate left-hand and right-hand grip configurations - met all military specifications, leading to easy and seamless replacement of the previous controls. Ultra MSI met complete functionality requirements resulting in improved dependability and reduced life-cycle costs.
ITAS has been fielded in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, where it has demonstrated its value in all phases of conflict and subsequent peacekeeping efforts. The targeting system significantly increases TOW's effective range, improves the weapon's ability to hit a target with minimal collateral damage, and allows a soldier to engage and destroy targets from safe distances.

Its main task is to assist NATO nations by organizing common procurement and supply of spare parts and arranging maintenance and repair services necessary for the support of various weapon systems in their inventories.
