GBP 36 bn programme for R&D agreed by EU

Negotiations on the EU's largest funding instrument for R&D, the seventh Framework Programme, concluded successfully in Brussels today with the Council of Ministers agreeing the GBP 36 billion programme.

SBAC's comment on the announcement:

"SBAC welcomes the agreement on seventh Framework Programme budget. Aerospace investment is an important part of the GBP36bn fund . Of the six suggested joint technology initiative s, it is crucial that aeronautics and air transport (known as Clean Sky) is selected by the Commission as a priority. This programme will contribute to composite material development and more efficient engine technology, which will help to improve the environmental performance of aircraft . Security and resilience is another vital part of the European funding programme. SBAC looks forward to the call for programmes in the next few days ."
