Once shipped, this order will bring the Company's installed base of handheld explosives detectors in Asia to approximately 176 units. Previous shipments of our explosives detection equipment are being used in railway transportation and law enforcement applications. It is our understanding that these new handheld explosives detectors will be used in aviation applications.
Joanne Arsenault, Implant Sciences' VP of Sales & Marketing-Security Division, stated, "Our distributors continue to make inroads in the penetration of the Asian marketplace helping us to secure a position as one of the market leaders in the sales of trace detection equipment in Asia. We are encouraged by the positive feedback from our previous installations in the Asian market and are hopeful that we will meet with continued success in calendar 2007."
Dr. Anthony J. Armini, PhD., CEO of Implant Sciences, commented, "As stated in our recent earnings conference call, the demand for trace detection equipment worldwide was lower than expected in calendar 2006, however, our market research indicates a significant increase in the potential demand for trace detection equipment in calendar 2007. We believe we were successful in increasing the markets awareness of our trace detection equipment and are hopeful that we will continue to further penetrate this potentially increasing market in calendar 2007. This new Asian order should bolster our second quarter cash flows as the units ordered are currently built and in inventory."
The proprietary Quantum Sniffer(TM) technology and products are differentiated from that of the competitors. The Company's products detect a wide array of explosives using a proprietary non-contact vortex sampling system. The equipment does not require radioactive sources or consumables, as is required by competitive products. Further, the equipment does not require a radioactive source and has extremely low operating costs unlike the competitive products. The Quantum Sniffer has been sold worldwide for use by first responders, such as local law enforcement, maritime security, air and ground transportation logistics, aviation security, private and government infrastructure security, and cargo delivery.
